I’ve seen a lot come and go, and this helps give me perspective on what can work and what often does not.”

Mark has been in the financial planning business for over 40 years. “I’ve seen a lot come and go, and this helps give me perspective on what can work and what often does not.” Mark initially gained perspective as a manager of other planners, though now prefers working with clients directly because he learned that he prefers getting to know his clients and their families.

Mark grew up in Richfield in a family he simply describes as “wonderful.” He and his parents and older brother eventually moved Colorado Springs, where he was quite active in high school sports. Mark went on to college in Santa Barbara, California where, like many students do, he eventually ran out of money. His parents had moved back to Minnesota, and given his finances, he moved back too, successfully earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota. He then went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree from United Seminary in New Brighton, Minnesota.

Mark credits some early mentors for influencing his work style and service values as an advisor. He first trained with some of the top managers at IDS (now Ameriprise), including Doug Lennick and Tom Turner. Mark’s father-in-law, Ray Beachy, was also a big influence. According to Mark, Ray claimed to be “the original financial planner”–having moved from IDS home office to the field in the 1970’s for the purpose of orienting the organization toward a financial planning approach.

Mark and his wife Maureen live in Chanhassen, Minnesota, where they raised their kids, now grown.  Outside of work, Mark enjoys golf, curling, pickleball, watching sports, and community volunteering.
